Embrace Your Leadership Impact, Taylor Swift Style!

By Moshe Engelberg, PhD

Taylor Swift does this amazing thing. She stands on stage receiving a standing ovation in a stadium filled with cheering fans, with a great big smile, hands on her heart, eyes sparkling, just soaking it all in. It’s not just a performance—it’s an act of embracing her impact and being fully present.

I was reminded of this at a recent “Books & Business” workshop, where the leader Amber Vilhauer did the same after her deeply heartfelt presentation. She stood there, smiling, arms open, and took in the applause and acknowledgment—a true “Taylor Swift moment.”

Your Action Step: Boldly Be Present!

The next time you complete something significant, pause. Stand tall, take a deep breath, and let yourself truly take it in. Allow yourself to feel the appreciation—whether it comes from others or from within.

Why Take Your Taylor Swift Moment?

As leaders, we often move from one task to the next, rarely pausing to acknowledge, or to be acknowledged, for our accomplishments.

Taking a “Taylor Swift moment” isn’t about seeking applause—it’s about allowing ourselves to truly feel the impact we’ve made, to be vulnerable, and to connect authentically with those around us. It also feels really good to those providing their sincere acknowledgment and gratitude.

Remember, as Brené Brown teaches: “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”

So go ahead. Take a breath, smile, open your arms, and take your Taylor Swift moment. You deserve it.
