A new year means a fresh start right? Resolutions, plans, promises. All good. The thing is you don’t need to limit yourself to January 1 to start anew (unless you really want to honor Janus, the Roman god of beginnings). It’s a quite arbitrary tradition.
Instead, consider, say, every Sunday as a new beginning. Or treat every morning as a fresh start. Better yet, make every moment new. Because the now, this moment you’re in, is always new.
Four Amare Tips to Make NOW New
- Notice your breath. Always working for you whether you pay attention or not, noticing your breath is the simplest way to come to now.
- Use prompts. Low tech and high tech, sticky notes and cell phone reminders, give yourself little reminders that simply say “now.”
- Slow down. Rushing, always being busy, keeps you out of now because you’re always on to what’s next. When you walk, eat, think, talk, type – literally, slow yourself down a bit.
- Reflect. Whenever you switch activities, train yourself to be still and reflect on what you’re moving from and to. This transition will invite you fully into now.
