“This year, I resolve to prioritize my time, delegate more, and have a good work-life balance.” Sound familiar? It’s the kind of annual commitment lots of leaders make. All reflect big and important goals, and notice, all are about doing things better.
Why not make a different choice this year and focus your New Year’s resolution on how you are being. First be, then do, then have. When the best version of you shows up (being), you will take more effective action (doing) and be more likely to achieve your goals (having). That’s how it works.
- What is the best version of you?
- Will you commit to work on how and who you are being this year?
4 Amare Ways to Work on Your “Being” This Year
1. Start with self-awareness. Commit to getting to know who you are and how you operate. Ask yourself often: Who am I being right now? No judgment, just notice.
2. Add in mindfulness. Focus on being fully attentive to whatever is happening right now. Noticing your breath is the simplest way to come back to the present moment.
3. Now emotional intelligence. Pay attention to emotions, triggers, and knee-jerk reactions in yourself and in others. Then wonder about what you observe.
4. Take inspired action. As your self-awareness, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence grow, trust that you know what to do and then do it.
Stand out this year as a leader who really knows who they are, is honest about it, and commits to ongoing self-improvement. It’s the path of love-powered leaders and a way of being that powerfully attracts top employees and loyal customers.
