Why Leaders Need to Promote Vision
In my leadership coaching work, I see again and again how vital it is for leaders to regularly communicate their organization’s vision. Not because their people don’t know it, but because they don’t live it.
And it’s not their fault. We all get caught up in our tasks, and forget about the bigger vision, and why we do what we do. The Amare Way keeps the “why” front and center, again and again and again, because we all need reminding and inspiring. And that’s what great leaders do.
- How do you keep your organization’s vision and higher purpose front and center?
- How do you help your people stay tuned into the organization’s vision when they’re hyper-focused elsewhere?
- What happens when your vision does and does not drive key decisions?
4 Amare Ways to Make Your Organization’s Vision Matter
These steps presume you have an organizational vision that is both inspirational and aspirational. If you don’t, no worries. You can get there! Read this or contact me if you’d like a little guidance to get started.
1. Check your vision. State your organization’s vision clearly and simply. Notice if you feel anything. Run it by some team members you trust for honest feedback on its fit, its uniqueness, and how inspiring it is.
2. Simplify your vision. Boil it down to a few words or even a mantra, so it serves as a cue that’s easy to remember and repeat. Then expand on that shorthand in different ways to fit the situation and audience.
3. Practice communicating your vision. Imagine a project scrum, a board meeting, a financial review – practice expressing the vision in a way that connects with the topic at hand. And practice more so it stays fresh for you and not just rote repetition.
4. Believe in your vision. Most important of all is that you take your vision to heart, you feel it really matters, and you commit to manifesting it. That passion can keep you going when the going gets tough.
