Today my book The Amare Wave was released. I wrote it to reduce suffering in business and help leaders and companies be better and do better. It was a three year project and I just want to take this moment now — and acknowledge all the support I received along the way from so many colleagues, family, and friends. Acts of love, all. Thank you, thank you.
I hope my book does very well and trust that it will. You can order it here if you like. Much more than that, I hope the message of uplifting business with the energy of love resonates with you. And most important of all, is that you, all of you, will join the movement of people and organizations courageous enough to say yes to love in business. You will not be alone. There is tremendous momentum in the direction of putting love to work and profiting greatly. It is a growing movement, a wave if you will (that’s why I put the word “wave” in the title, after “amare” which in Latin means love). Because it is time to shift from a warlike, fear-based business mindset that worships money, to a love-centered expansive paradigm that appropriately honors money as a byproduct of achieving a greater purpose. Otherwise the greed and lack of meaning and absence of real connection will continue to cause great suffering.
Here’s how I described the “wave” in the opening chapter called Catching the Amare Wave: Why Love? Why Now?
“The Amare Wave gathering momentum right now is propelled by a multitude of successful companies and those telling their stories, continuously growing and reaching toward countless more companies across the globe by resonating with their known truths and deepest yearnings. As a result, love-centered companies that do well by doing good are receiving more and more attention. The wave cannot be ignored because the positive results are too consistent and compelling to write off as an aberration or as unachievable. In fact, researchers have taken notice of these pioneering organizations and have begun to document and share the process and outcomes, which has lent credibility and emboldened confidence. For example, the research-based book Firms of Endearment lists a diverse mix of over seventy public and private organizations from the US and other countries that ascribe to a love-centered philosophy—and with great financial results—which is motivating others to adopt recommended practices.”
“Other books, such as Reinventing Organizations, Saving Capitalism, Peak, and Principles, similarly spread the word about successful values-based approaches to business. There is also a spate of business books that are explicitly about love: Lovability, Love Is the Killer App, Love Is Just Damn Good Business, Lead with Luv, Customer Love, and LoveMarks, to name a few. Founders and CEOs of a wide range of companies—Chobani, TOMS, Geisinger Healthcare, KIND, Airbnb, and more—are telling their stories through TED talks, books, conferences, and podcasts about successfully putting love to work. We even see huge companies like Costco consistently resisting the pressures of Wall Street and choosing to do things in their own principled and generous way with great success.”
“What’s exciting, too, is that disciplines like positive psychology and servant leadership are taking hold in all kinds of businesses, as are a plethora of other ideas and practices that support the energy of love in business. A few examples of these are emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and meditation; co-creation, collaboration, and transparency in teamwork; and being purpose-driven, compassionate, and happy at work. The blending of Eastern and Western traditions is also adding energy to the wave, as we see advice within companies from contemporary spiritual leaders like the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, Deepak Chopra, and Eckhart Tolle, along with ancient wisdom from works like the Bhagavad Gita and Tao Te Ching.”
The bottom line is this, as I say in the conclusion: “The Amare Wave is real. It is happening. It is now. And it has the capacity to diminish decades of pain and suffering and bring astounding happiness and prosperity to business and society—that is the power of love and business coming together.”
So please, whether you buy my book or not, join the movement, catch the wave. Spread the word. It is a path to greater happiness and prosperity through the immense power of business.
