10 Simple Actions for Putting Love to Work in Business & Life

Making a Difference Every Single Wednesday

This last week was full of “special’ days that either promote consumerism (Black Friday, Cyber Monday) or kindness (Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday). The idea of assigning a purpose to a day is what gave birth to the idea of Amare Wave Wednesday.

The difference is that it’s not once a year, it’s once a week. We are claiming Wednesday – every Wednesday – as the day to do one thing to improve business by putting the power of love to work.

That’s what this newsletter about – inspiring you to take a small action to improve your life and uplift and connect with others (that’s what I mean by Amare or love). The more of us do it, the more the wave grows bigger and stronger, and love becomes the new normal in business.

  • Will you imagine what our world could be like as more and more companies adopt the Amare Way?
  • Will you dare to take one small action today to put love to work in your life and work?
  • Will you accept the possibility that love – energy that uplifts and connects – can profitably be the driving force in business?

10 Amare Actions for Putting Love to Work in Business & Life

Here are a variety of action steps from past newsletters you can take today to put love to work. Happy Amare Wave Wednesday, every week!

1. Think “flourish!”. Post a sticky note, set a reminder on your phone, tell your family – remind yourself about your commitment to flourish. Envision yourself flourishing. Thoughts become beliefs become behaviors become habits.

2. Confirm your higher purpose. Declare your company’s higher purpose. Then ask employees, customers, and other stakeholders if they value that higher purpose. If not, reconsider what higher purpose might be shared.

3. Listen, listen, listen. Audit how often and when you invite your various stakeholders to provide meaningful input. Work with your team to maximize those opportunities and to visibly act on what you learn.

4. Destroy negativity. Choose one belief or behavior that is rooted in fear, greed, or ignorance. Destroy it. Write it down and burn the paper, tell a trusted friend you are letting it go, dig a hole and bury a symbol of it – whatever action works for you.

5. Practice trusting. Choose low consequence situations for  mini-experiments: Imagine one, and say “Now I will trust in the _________ (process, universe, you choose the word!).” Then let go and trust.

6. Make motivation a company thing. Create a shared “motivation vault” with quotes, pics, and stories – including ones about your organization. Tap into the vault when starting your day, launching meetings, having company events, etc. so people get used to using it.

7. Make disrupting safe. Demonstrate that in your company it’s safe to ask provocative questions and challenge the status quo. Emphasize that these explorations advance your shared goal of being of maximum value to your many stakeholders.

8. Do a restart. Identify one area in your work that could use a restart – maybe it’s how you work on teams, the way you lead, or a particular habit that gets in your way. Choose one thing and start fresh.

9. Celebrate belonging. Invest in, measure, and reward employee and customer loyalty. Track and publicize employee and customer praise that shows a strong sense of identification and kinship.

10. Share this newsletter! Use the links below to pass this message along. It will let people know where you stand and encourage them to be ambassadors with you.

Today’s Amare Wave Wednesday Quote

“Imagine love is not only the new necessity in business, it is simply how business is done in the twenty-first century and beyond. Love in business unifies us, lets us prosper without suffering, and makes our world a better place.”
